Event Description:

Join us as two guys and a girl, all locally-born and raised in Southern California, jawbone the future of L.A.! Michael Lejeune and Matt Raymond, both of Metro Los Angeles, are sitting down with Jeni Herberger for a live, on-location taping of “Talk Story with Jeni” and you’re invited to be a part of the studio audience! Michael and Matt will share the secrets of their partnership at Metro, explaining how their team took the high road, literally, to create successful communications strategies that set the bar for mass transit across the nation. It’s a beautiful thing with lots of eye candy, and the conversation is sure to be engaging, educational and entertaining.

“Talk Story with Jeni” is a bi-weekly blog radio show where listeners are invited to listen on conversations with the greatest design thinkers in the industry. Participant Bios:

Jeni Herberger

Internationally-recognized as a powerful force in changing the way people approach the business of design, Jeni works tirelessly with creative professionals and corporate leaders teaching them to connect and communicate. Known for her uncanny ability to break down the walls between business policy and design strategy, Jeni has spent the past 20-something years working with creative and corporate leaders to identify practical strategies on doing business better. After entering UCLA to become a physician, Jeni found her true calling and received a degree from the University of California, Irvine in Theater. Her exposure to the fashion industry, stage and photography lead her into a career that has ran the artistic gamut. She is the founder of Big Fish, a top-rated creative staffing firm, host of blog talk radio's, "Talk Story with Jeni", author, speaker, and most importantly, wife and mother of three.

Michael Lejeune

Michael is currently the Creative Director for Metro (Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority). Metro’s 30-person Creative Services group creates all things visual for the nation’s third-largest transit agency, including advertising, wayfinding and environmental graphics, timetables, maps, fare media and customer information, bus and rail fleet design, websites and mobile data, and merchandising. Metro's design work received more than 70 awards since 2002 – including recognition from the American Public Transit Association (APTA), The New York Times, Fast Company, Communication Arts, Print, STEP Inside Design and HOW magazines – and is included in the national archives of AIGA. Metro has also received a ReBrand 100 Best Of award. Michael has enjoyed speaking opportunities at AIGA’s design conference, the Y Conference and Arizona’s Thunderbird School of Global Management, among others. He a past president of AIGA's Los Angeles chapter and completed the AIGA/Harvard Business School "Business Perspectives for Design Leaders" program.

Matt Raymond

As Metro’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Matt oversees a comprehensive communications program, a staff of nearly 300 and a budget in excess of $75 million. In addition to several major capital project introductions, Matt has elevated the brand recognition and positive perception of Metro to record levels. Boardings, customer satisfaction, revenues and nearly every other leading indicator are at all-time highs. In addition, Matt initiated and led the agency’s efforts to place a sales tax increase measure on LA County’s election ballot in 2008. The measure passed by the required two-thirds majority, providing Metro with a 30-year, $40 billion fund solely earmarked for county-wide transportation projects. Prior to joining Metro, Matt headed the marketing and advertising efforts for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Denver, Colorado’s Regional Transportation District (RTD). Matt holds a Masters Degree in marketing and a Masters Degree in public administration from the University of Colorado at Denver. He is also a lecturer and teaches at the The Mineta Transportation Institute.
